New on-site farmstand will highlight regional farmers and food producers

Manson, WA — February 10, 2026 — Rootwood Cider announced today that it has been awarded a grant from the Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) through its Local Food System Infrastructure Grant program to create a farmstand at its cidery, featuring locally grown produce and goods from a variety of regional vendors. The initiative builds on more than a century of local farming by the Koenig Family, who have farmed in the area for over 100 years. The project is designed to strengthen local food systems while expanding community access to fresh, Washington-grown products.

Key Highlights

  • WSDA Local Food System Infrastructure Grant awarded to support the development of an on-site farmstand

  • Farmstand will feature produce and goods from multiple local farms and vendors

  • Project reinforces Rootwood Cider’s commitment to regional agriculture and community partnerships

The new farmstand will be located adjacent to the Rootwood Cidery Company building and will showcase seasonal produce and locally made products alongside Rootwood’s estate-grown ciders. By creating a dedicated space for local vendors, Rootwood Cider aims to provide increased visibility and sales opportunities for small farms while offering visitors a convenient, community-centered shopping experience. Rootwood’s ciders will continue to be available through the existing taproom.

“This grant allows us to deepen our support for local agriculture and provide another platform for farmers in the area, beyond farmers markets,” said Anna Koenig Caddey, one of the owners of Rootwood Cidery Company. “We’re excited to create a welcoming farmstand that connects our customers directly with the farmers and producers who make our region so special.”

The farmstand is expected to feature a rotating selection of fruits, vegetables, and value-added products from nearby farms and food businesses. The stand will operate during daylight hours and will be self-serve, allowing visitors to conveniently purchase local products while visiting the cidery grounds. Development is currently underway, with more details about participating vendors and opening dates to be announced.

Rootwood Ownership Announcement: Koenig Sisters Take Full Ownership of Rootwood Cider Company

Rootwood Cider Company is excited to announce that ownership of the business was recently transferred wholly to the Koenig sisters - Emily, Kate, and Anna. The Koenig family started Rootwood Cider in 2014 as a natural extension of their family orcharding background, which has spanned over a century in the Lake Chelan Valley. The Koenig sisters represent the fifth generation of Koenigs that have been a part of farming family apple orchards in Manson, WA and bring a diverse skill set to the company.

The venture into craft cider-making was a somewhat uncharted path for the family business, which had traditionally tended the orchards for commercial apple growing. From day one, Rootwood’s focus has been on providing small batch, high quality cider directly from their own orchards and local apple producers. The business is truly a labor of love, as the sisters play a hand in each element of cider-making - everything from the cultivation of the apple trees, to the autumn harvest, and eventually to the creation of crisp, hard cider that has won several prestigious medals in the company’s small lifetime. Sipping a Rootwood cider is an orchard to glass experience in the truest sense.

Under the new ownership, Rootwood will continue to produce a combination of traditional and modern ciders - both heirloom apple blends and single-varietal products, and small-batch experimental ciders such as the syrah-infused Rosé, honey infused Pollinator, and ghost chili pepper infused Golden Ghost. Cider will be available in the same great format - by tasting flight, glass pour, or growler fill at the tasting room, via the Cider Club, or through easy one-stop shopping at the online shop.
